The
Social responsibility of upgrading the underprivileged was shouldered by
the volunteers of 'DAV Public School', Pushpanjali Enclave, to be a part
of the "Each One Teach One " Literacy drive this mission
took birth on the occasion of literacy day(8th Sept) in the year 2001,
when a few working maids were enrolled under 'Apathit Bal Shiksha kendra',
a school run within the school premises from 1.00 pm -3.00 pm. it was
not easy convincing the gathered crowd. As an incentive uniforms and
midday meals were provided .Eatables which they generally can never
think of purchasing and cooking were put on the menu. Moral education
values which help for a fruitful future and "Akshar Gyaan" were
inculcated among the taught. Audio visual aids, models charts and many
such things to attract their attention and concentration were used
. This long journey is still on its way. Each year the same day we
enroll a group of forty forty five students and bid them adieu in
the month of May.
Year after year changes have been made in their
curriculum as teachers teaching fest the need. A remarkable change
can be seen bringing smile to both the teachers and taught. this
programme was renamed as "Bal
Siksha Kendra" in the year 2003 where the group turned 'pathit'
as a few preferred to continue even after one complete session. It is
now run under "Prodh Siksha" as the
enrolled are no longer limited to young girls . We have women folk
ranging from 10-45 yrs, who show desperate eagerness to join the group
from year 2005, two professional teachers are also being employed as
academics only no longer is in their syllabus. they are taught a course
in 'beauty culture" and stitching. Candle making was a part of the
programme and the same were sold for Diwali which help them raise their
pocket money.
We here at D.A.V Pushpanjali keep them at par with the regular
students here. They are participants in Our Annual functions each year.
Students who excel in the session are awarded with sewing machine. Two
such girls honoured were Farhad in 2004 and Bharti in the year 2005. A
programme on the occasion of Literacy Day
is organized each year. |
